The Queens Theatre In The Park is located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the site of the World's Fair in 1939 and 1964. The Theatre has a 476-seat mainstage and a 99 seat black-box studio theatre. The mainstage is used to produce plays, dance performances, and children's programming. Some of these productions have begun touring and are appearing at other famous venues, including The Emelin Theatre in Mammaroneck and The Egg in Albany.

Designed by world-famous architect Philip Johnson, the theatre was built as part of the New York State Pavilion for the 1964 World's Fair. Before it was transformed by the 1939 exhibition, the 1257 acre park had been a city dump. Today, Flushing Meadows is the second largest and most heavily used of New York City's parks.

The space age was the theme of the 1964 World's Fair and many of the exhibits still stand. On the face of the theatre are two towers topped with miniature flying saucers, and behind the building the full sized rockets from the '64 exhibition still stand. The park is home to many other cultural institutions including the Queens Museum, The New York Hall of Science, the Queens Wildlife Center, the USTA tennis stadium, and Shea Stadium, home of the New York Mets.
