Milwaukee's Marcus Center for the Performing Arts is a multi-purpose complex located in the heart of downtown along the river. Occupying an entire city block, the center is home to the Green Room, Anello Atrium, Magin Lounge, Uihlein Hall, Bradley Pavilion, Peck Pavilion, Vogel Hall, and the Todd Wehr Theater. The Wehr is primarily host to First Stage Milwaukee productions and stand-up comedians.
After World War II, instead of erecting a monument to honor its brave soldiers the county decided to build a functional hall. The first building opened in 1957 and served as the meeting place for veterans as well as an art museum. The performing arts center was erected in 1969. In 1994, a $5 million donation from the Marcus Corp. Foundation gave the center its new name and ensured the completion of the current structure.
Originally slated as a rehearsal space, the Todd Wehr Theater was expanded to serve as the home for the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. Seats surround the thrust stage on three sides as well as a two row balcony that provides a bird's-eye view of the performance.
